Well-known author Beverly Cleary celebrates her birthday on April 12th. In honor of her excellent writing and love of reading, this day is known as National Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) Day! Second graders celebrate each year by inviting special guests to read with them at school. No matter what students are doing, as soon as their guests arrive, they are allowed to stop what they are doing – drop everything – and visit the IMC to READ! Family members and friends are able to share their love of reading and promote the importance of reading. Reading is inspiring! It takes us to places that we have never been. It builds our imaginations and sparks our curiosities. It is our hope that D.E.A.R. Day becomes part of the daily routine among all families, as they celebrate and enjoy reading together.
