As the school year draws to a close, I just wanted to take this final newsletter to celebrate some of the great reasons that Grundy Center Schools are recognized as a premier school district. Elementary Principal Brian Sammons was named Literary Administrator of the Year by the Iowa School Library Association. Our Academic Decathlon team sent an unprecedented 4 people to nationals. One of our very own students (Tiana Saak) was one of only two students from Iowa to be named a US Presidential Scholar. Our middle school math teacher (Clay Edwards) was named the Editor of the Math in the Middle School Journal of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the most prestigious math education group in America. Grundy Center Schools have risen to the national spotlight for educational excellence. Next year we will be unveiling the new practice gym, restructuring alternative programming to help more students, and introducing new curriculum in science and social studies. Our Teacher Leaders are helping our teachers improve curriculum and instruction to make significant growth in student achievement. Advancements in curriculum development, including the introduction of Rubicon Atlas as curriculum manager, will advance under new secondary principal, Michael Vokes. I encourage everyone—students and staff alike—to continue learning during the summer yet take time to enjoy the time away from Grundy Center Schools. I look forward to seeing you all, refreshed and ready to learn/teach, next fall! Superintendent Schutz
