Dear Parents, Grundy Center Elementary is buzzing with excitement for some upcoming events in late January and February! Water Rocks! from Iowa State University will be visiting our school to teach us a greater appreciation of our water resources through a combination of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math). This presentation is funded through our annual fundraising campaign.

On February 9, author and illustrator Joseph Kuefler will make his third visit to Grundy Center. Sometimes kids will ask me why we keep having Mr. Kuefler back. The simple answer is, because he is just that good! Mr. Kuefler has great respect for how much we care to celebrate books, that he creates a special visit just for us! Most authors will not attempt to put on the kind of presentation Mr. Kuefler so graciously does. This visit is also funded through our fundraising campaign.

Our Mock Caldecott Awards announcement will also be announced on February 9. On Monday, February 12, we will watch the live announcements at the American Library Association Youth Media Awards in Denver, Colorado! We will keep our fingers crossed that some of our favorite books win awards!

Did you know that Grundy Center Elementary offers a three-week summer school program in July? With limited enrollment based on assessment scores and parent and teacher recommendations, our summer school program has been proven successful. We plan to offer the program again in 2018, so be on the look out for information.

On February 15, our TK students will be presenting a music “Informance” sharing all of the things they have learned in music class this year. Parents and other relatives are invited to attend!
