With all of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I thought it would be a good time to stop and reflect on all that is well. There is so much to be thankful for here at Grundy Center Elementary. We are blessed to have wonderful students and families, caring and dedicated staff, and a community that embraces our city’s youngest citizens. It most definitely takes a village to help our children grow. For all of those reasons, I am thankful.

The first trimester Spartan Senate members chose an opportunity to help others outside of Grundy Center. For one week only, students promoted and collected coins for the Nashville-based charity, Soles4Souls, which collects new and used shoes and distributes them to those in need in the United States and 127 other countries. With the hard work of these students and the generous donations from students and staff, $1,335.51 was raised to support their mission. Thank you to everyone who helped out!

We are excited to officially begin our Mock Caldecott school-wide unit! To kick things off, an assembly was held, and teachers presented short book talks for each of the 23 books. It will be exciting to choose our own winners!

Our students received a special surprise shortly before Thanksgiving. Students were sent a personal video update from our pen pal, Hayley Podschun in New York City. Friend of G.C. Elementary, Brendon Stimson, also sent a few short videos as he prepared to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! We are fortunate to partner with such talented and generous performers!

Wishing you all the best, Brian Sammons
