Late December brought in some good news for Grundy Center Elementary on the School
Performance Profile as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act. Our school was not
labeled neither comprehensive nor targeted! That’s great news! Much of this score was
determined by last year’s third and fourth grade students’ Iowa Assessment scores.
Unfortunately, none of the students’ FAST reading and math scores are incorporated. This
year, our K-3 students scored 21st highest of 393 public school districts and parochial
elementary schools. I am hopeful some data from the early childhood students will
eventually be incorporated into this report.
Speaking of Iowa Assessments, the Iowa Department of Education is rolling out a brand
new assessment called ISASP (Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress). This will
replace Iowa Assessments. You can check out practice tests at
iowa.pearsonaccessnext.com/test-prep. We will be testing in late April or early May.
Our Kids Club meetings in December focused on being compassionate. Students collected
food items for the local Operation Threshold food bank and ended up with over 438
pounds of donated items! Thank you for supporting our collection!
Professional development on January 21 will be focused around phonics and phonemic
awareness. Our staff members have worked very hard the past couple years on learning
about teaching literacy!
January 28th will be an exciting day for our elementary
students. This is the day that the real Caldecott
winning book is announced. We will be cheering for
and celebrating books during the announcement!
